Vassy "I have always worked with the youth, it something that comes very easy for me. Having grown up in a remote part of Australia at the age of 17 I would apply for aid from the Australian Arts Council and put together music workshops for other kids as there was not many outlets for us to express ourselves up north. From there it started and my humanitarian work developed and grew from working in detention centers with young men and teenage boys to going out to the indigenous communities of the Northern Territory to traveling to New Caledonia performing for people who have never seen a concert in their life up in the little villages and to being the Ambassador for Australian carers. I worked with kids who have a family member with a terminal illness or a severe disability. Having lost my own father to cancer and caring for him to having first hand experience with a family member with special needs and growing up in an isolated part of Australia, I feel like I am the perfect person to work with kids. Here in LA I have volunteered at a teenage orphanage safe house and on a weekly basis put on a music workshop for teenage girls. As an Ambassador for POD, I love POD's philosophy because their goal is to inspire kids and give them a playground to dream big....I am an inspiration of that because I too had big dreams with no one to help me or encourage me and on my own had to find a way to figure out how to get closer to them.....Most people would laugh at my dreams when i would tell them what i wanted to do back when i was 14. Not only that but I was kicked out of school choir told I could not sing when all i truly ever wanted to do deep down is to sing and create music. Well I did it and here i am successfully living in America living my dreams. It is hard work though but all is possible and I am living berthing example of that. My role is to motivate other young individuals to believe in themselves and to dream and believe!! I tell my kids to go out there and kick some vassy !! lol"
